In fact, the 2026 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study found that wood has surpassed white as the most popular cabinetry choice among renovating homeowners.
Staying power: High. Natural materials rarely feel dated, particularly when they’re used to complement rather than overwhelm a space.
2. The Prep Kitchen Gets an Upgrade
The butler’s pantry has evolved. Today’s custom homes are increasingly incorporating fully functional prep or back kitchens with additional sinks, dishwashers, refrigeration, appliance storage and plenty of workspace. For homeowners who love to entertain, it allows the main kitchen to remain beautiful while the mess — and much of the work — stays behind the scenes.
Staying power: Very high. Anything that makes a home function better tends to outlast trends.
3. Curves Are Moving Into the Architecture
Curves are no longer limited to sofas and décor. Arched doorways, curved staircases, rounded islands, sculptural range hoods and softer architectural lines are appearing throughout homes. Houzz recently reported searches for arched range hoods increased 177%, while rounded kitchen island searches jumped 123%.

4. Texture Is Becoming the New Color
Instead of relying on bold color to create interest, designers are layering natural stone, limewash, plaster, handcrafted tile, wood and other tactile materials. Sandstone searches on Houzz recently jumped 257%, while interest in Venetian plaster increased 94%.

5. Outdoor Living Is Becoming True Living Space
